Saturday the kids and I dragged ourselves out of bed. We were all feeling a little depressed to be left here (ok, I was feeling depressed). But, we knew we needed to get up and moving to get feeling better. We started by walking down the road to a haircut place to get Jace a little trim. His hair had been a little on the wild side for a bit, so it was time. The salon was empty except for approximately 8 workers. The first worker jumped right on it. He was a man; the only one in the place. No sooner did he start, though, than the other women workers all gathered round. I should have taken a picture of it, but I didn't know how to sneakily accomplish that. Jace had a little fan club oohing and ahhing and "que lindo"ing ("how cute") over him. I don't know how the man did his work with 7 women right there too. But he did and we got out of there shortly after. $7 for the cut. Not too bad.
We then made our way down the hill a bit further to the Quicentro mall in search of a dress for Mishell. I made some poor calls when it comes to some of her clothing, dresses being one of them. I brought two for her for our time here and one of them she wore once and then when we washed it, it became far, far too short. So now it is Hallie's. :) So that left her with one and she was sick of wearing the one, so we went to find another. Pretty much all malls here are ridiculously priced, but I have no idea where else to look for clothes. We found a store that had some 50% off racks, so we looked there. It was kind of an old lady looking store, but no matter, we found a cute pink dress that she will make work with her black sweater (see picture below- she wore it Sunday). It was $30 after the 1/2 off, so not too bad.
After this, we made our way to the McDonalds to wait out hearing from Devin, which we did. We then went shopping at the Supermaxi right there and took a taxi home with our groceries. It's hard not having our own car here, because it means multiple trips sometimes. As soon as we dropped the groceries off, we went down to the fruit and veggie market to stock up on a few items there. We walked home, up the horrific hill with all of that. The rest of the day was spent watching a movie and not doing much else. I found a book of Sudoku that someone left here, so that kept me entertained for much of the weekend. I also found a few books on the shelf that looked okay and read two of them this weekend. Neither was all that impressive.

Yes we paid to have our pictures with him ;) |
Sunday was Stake Conference for the ward we have been attending, but we decided we should still go. It was a fun experience to see what a stake looks like here...they completely filled the chapel and overflow and some other rooms where the conference was projected. We only understood you know, some of it, but what we understood was great. The mission president and his wife both spoke (in Spanish) and did a great job. We talked to Grace Chicaiza for a bit afterward and also saw the missionaries, who apologized for not coming last week (It was General Conference and since they are the secretaries to the President, they only can teach on Sundays-- their weekdays are full at the office). They made an appointment to come over later that day.
We passed the afternoon by playing games, napping, cooking dinner, and making apple crisp (very yummy, I must say). The missionaries came over after dinner with Pablo, the ward member waiting for his visa for his mission. They taught Mishell and Jace about repentance and baptism with a hands on lesson. They do such a good job with the kids. Mishell told me before they came that Elder Bahr is her favorite. I think it is because he has siblings adopted from China and he told her about them on their first visit and showed her a picture. Anyway, they went to leave, and she shook everyone's hands dutifully and then got to Elder Bahr at the end and threw her arms around him in a big old hug. I think he was a little shocked. :) Anyway, I had to tell her afterward that while the gesture was nice, she can't hug him any more. She was a bit sad by this news. (Missionaries have rules regarding physical touch with member of the opposite gender during their missions...no matter how hold or young).
And that's how we passed the weekend...I will post about today tomorrow.
