Ecuador Day 20

Still no word on MJB about court. I haven't even heard about how her meeting went with the judge yesterday or if it even happened. I emailed her this morning but no response yet. You all know how I feel about that part of things, so enough said.

We had no specific plans for today, so we decided to take a really long walk to get out of the house and to burn some time (I have never in my life said "burn some time" more often, just for the record. I have never had this kind of time to burn and it pains me...). Anyway, we decided to walk to our church's office buildings on Amazonas y Robles (this means nothing to you all, except if you know where the Artesian Market, about a block from there). The walk was about three miles and took an hour or so, with a stop for donuts on the way. We passed this little donut shop that had really good looking donuts in the front window, so how could we resist? As soon as we stepped in, I knew I knew that place...and sure enough it came back to me that this is where Flor and I spent a lot of time just sitting, waiting for MJB to come back with the good news that the judge had signed our exit salida last time around. Since the judge was being kind of a poop and not wanting to sign the dang thing, many an hour were spent in that donut shop (the court house is a few doors down). Wish I could say I have better memories there, but at least the donuts were tasty!

Anyway, we walked on. The kids did really well, considering the distance. Not a peep from Florinda, but that's because she gets pushed everywhere. She has it rough. Jace got a little whiny at the end, but he really did pretty well. We found the church office building and met the secretary? at the front desk, who promptly told us it was his birthday and then played himself a birthday song on Youtube so we could listen along. What a friendly guy. He pointed us in the direction of the store, where we purchased a Spanish hymn book and Children's Song Book for Mishell. The total for both was a whopping $5.

After that stop, we went to the Subway around the corner for lunch. It's just not the same here..let me tell you. Anyway, while there, we met 5 missionaries (I have no idea why we seem to meet missionaries everywhere we go...it's crazy). 3 of them were from the US-two from my hometown in IF and the other one from SLC. One from IF played football with my cousin in high school and knows him well. Very small world. These missionaries are in the other mission in Quito, the Quito mission, whereas we are staying in the boundaries for the Quito North mission. The line dividing the two is near our house. Anyway, very fun to run into them.

Next, we stopped by the Artesian Market where I spent many an hour as an OSSO volunteer. Lots of good memories there. We bought all the kids a t-shirt, because why not? They should show off their love for Ecuador. :) Then we took a taxi home as we were all worn out from all the walking. We did school in the afternoon after nap time and it seemed to be a bit more successful than yesterday. So, maybe we will try that again.

So sad that Devin leaves next week. Well, at least he is scheduled to leave next week. We really need to him to leave next week, as sad as that is for me. He needs to get back to work and the kids need to get back to school. However, before he goes home, we HAVE to have gone to court. So, there's that.

Prayers and good vibes and magic unicorn rainbows sent our way are all appreciated. I am getting a little bit anxious...

Ecuador (or at least Quito) loves statues. They have statues everywhere, definitely on every roundabout in the city (which are many) and other places randomly. I wonder who gets to decide what kind of statue to put where. Some of them are quite random indeed.

This large Catholic cathedral is right near the LDS church offices. It was fun to see it right in the middle of all the shops and buildings.

Not nearly as flashy :) We noticed immediately upon walking in how sparkling clean it was. It's a stark contrast to the dirty streets outside.

At the Artesian market, bartering for our t-shirts.

And then I turned around and Jace had his on. Such a handsome devil.
