Anyway, the best part of the week was that we got to spend our entire Saturday together as a family. Well, I did have one appointment in the morning, but it was in the neighboring town and only took an hour, so that wasn't bad. After I got home, we headed out to the DI with the intentions of buying Jace a new bike. Here's something for the record books...I have become rather obsessed with shopping at the DI. The one here near us is so great; there's always fabulous items to be found there. It started with trying to find certain games for the kids' collection (which I have done-- Sorry, Guess Who, Life, and others I can't remember right now). Then I decided that this DI was totally posh and so I go there, oh, about weekly on average. It's great. Anyway, we went on Saturday to find Jace and bike, and that we did. We got an awesome Spiderman bike for $5. Can't beat that. It did need new tubes in the tires, but that's it. So, we stopped on Wal-Mart on the way home and got the tubes, plus a new microwave (I didn't realize how hard it is to live without a microwave. So glad I was not a pioneer).
When we got home, we packed a picnic and then rode our bikes down to Hallie's school. We had our picnic and played the afternoon away. Devin had the kids running the bases on the ball diamond and timing how fast they went. Hallie's fastest time was 18 seconds and Jace's was 28 seconds. Devin ran them in 12 seconds and I am totally ashamed to say that I ran them in 16,..so you know, only two seconds faster than my 6 year old. I am just not the most athletic thing in the world. Oh, well.
After we finished there, we rode over the library and got some new books for the kids and for me. We rode home a new way then had movie night and dinner. It was so much fun. Just a casual, laid back day, but it made all the difference that we got to spend it all together! When the kids went to bed, Devin and I watched a movie ourselves. We haven't had a whole day together in who knows how long. Seriously, that's our life these days. So, it was amazing.
Other than that, it was a pretty standard week. We don't know when the next assignment committee will be for M to be matched to us, but supposedly it may be this Thursday. However, our friends the Broadduses (who we met in Ecuador when we adopted Flor) are going to be in Quito this Thursday and are supposed to be spending the day with MJB (the Ecuador rep who goes to the assignment committee meetings), so I am not sure how she'll be two places at once if the meeting really is this Thursday. So again, not holding our breath.
To end, I'll leave you with a funny Jace quote of the week. This kid is hilarious. I have no idea where he comes up with most of the stuff he says. So, he got a little cut on his foot and the skin was peeling, kind of like a blister. He kept freaking out about it, saying he could see the bone (which he clearly could not, for the record). While freaking out, he says in his most frantic voice, "What are the police, the firemen, and Jesus going to do about it?!" As if the police, the firemen, and Jesus should come to his rescue for every little thing. Seriously.
And a few pictures. I didn't take very many this week, but here's what we have:
Fixing up the Spidey bike! DI finds for the win! |
Running those bases..and those were in bad shoes. Maybe good shoes would help her beat my time? |
Devin, speedy, speedy |
