We had dinner and by then Hallie was extra eager to open her presents.
She alternated between having Grandpa and Grandma help her. She even helped Grandpa open his. :)
My favorite cake ever! Dairy Queen ice cream cake. In my family, we didn't so much bake cakes as buy them from DQ for birthdays. So, I thought I would do the same for Hallie. I just love the stuff. And the leftovers aren't half bad! Devin of course grew up with home baked everything, so we will have to compromise on how often we have store bought and how often we do home-made. I guess we will let each child decide for themselves what they want!
The birthday girl and birthday Grandpa.
On Hallie's actual birthday, I made sure she got the donuts and juice she had been requesting for weeks. Yum, yum. I went in to work late so that Devin and I could spend some time with her together. She wanted to play outside with her balls and her new bat. Devin couldn't have been more thrilled!
We also went to lunch at Sizzler so that Hallie could eat all the fruit she wanted. She doesn't eat fast food really at all, so we had to think creatively about what she might like.
That night, Devin worked, but we got special visits from Carlie, Aunt Kirston and Uncle Travis and kids, and Aunt Jennifer, Steve, and Sadie. The latter three came to stay the night as we left early the next morning to fly to Oakland for Mikey's wedding. A separate post will come later on that, as well as one on Grandpa Ed's funeral, which was yesterday. We have been busy! We are glad to be home though and sort of back in a routine.

Looks like a fun celebration of a fun girl! Happy Birthday Hallie! and Hurray for DQ ice cream cakes! They are my favorite too! I had them all through junior high/high school/college and even now!!
Happy birthday Hals. I'm glad that we got to see her on her birthday. Thanks for letting us come stay. I think Sadie will be going through Hallie withdrawals for weeks.
For the first time ever, I have just seen a picture where Hallie looks like you! Perhaps she was really not switched at birth! In other news.... I feel really awful that I have still not called to see how you are doing after Uncle Ed's funeral. I'm sorry Kim. I will call tomorrow! I love you to pieces though and I have been thinking about you!
