This has been a busy week. The kids are finishing up soccer and school. Jace had his preschool graduation (first year, since he'll be doing it again next year) and Hallie had kindergarten testing.
Jace's graduation was at a karate studio. They got a karate presentation and science presentation and it was all very neat! |
Hallie is #10. She has gotten much better at soccer as the season progressed. Jace on the other hand...not so much! |
Other happenings included that we purchased our first new set of couches ever (our first set were hand-me-downs from Devin's sister's sister-in-law that lasted us our first 8 years of marriage). We did not intend to buy couches, but I was out thrift shopping with my cousins and we saw them at the DI and they were just too good to pass up. They are nice brown leather with reclining seats and in excellent condition. So, yep, we spent the $80 to get them. Best deal ever. The best part was that Che', Carlie, and I wrangled the old ones out of the house and got the new ones in all on our own. Our dear sweet neighbor came running over and asked if we were moving. She was so concerned. I told her I would definitely give her more warning if we move. She was so sweet and said that she wanted to get us pizza for dinner after all that work. Jace piped right up and said, "Don't forget the breadsticks!" Ugh. Can someone teach that child some manners? Anyway, yes, we have the kindest neighbors. And new couches.
Modeling the couches while still at teh DI. Good thing I have extra good helpers to help me make decisions like this. |
These things were HEAVY. We were feeling pretty good about ourselves after we got them into the house. |
Saturday, we spent the whole afternoon together and it was fabulous. We went to the zoo first. We are part of some organizations that support kids with special needs, and one of these great organizations offers free annual zoo passes to their members. Sweet! So, we are taking advantage of that for sure. It was our first of many visits this summer, I am sure. We loved the gorillas, the African animals, and the kids got to participate in a live interaction show where they got to pet a snake and a ferret. No thanks for me. They seemed to like it though. Hallie said that her favorite part were the bats. Who knew?
After the zoo, we went to Sonic for slushies and then did a little summer shopping at Station Park. We stopped to see the fountain show and then headed home for dinner and bed. All in all, a perfect day.
Flor didn't want to stick her head in the hole...just for the record :) |
At Sonic. This was so funny. she took a huge drink of her slushie, clearly thinking it was water. When she was done, she had this horrible expression on her face like she had been duped. Haha..; |
Today, we got together with the other families in our ward with primary aged kids. That's about 8 families total. Yep, 8. Apparently all the empty nesters in the ward get together once a month for dinner (and there's gotta be a million of them!) so we decided it was time to get the younger families together too. It was a lot of fun. We had desserts of all kinds thanks to the Wayments who planned it all. They are so fun & have the perfect backyard for this kind of thing. We enjoyed our time with everyone and hope to make it a more regular thing.
Also per new information, Devin got a new calling in our ward. He is the second counselor in the Elders Quorum Presidency. The presidency is really great and he is excited to work with them. The funny thing about this is that it followed the exact pattern in our last ward. First he was a Sunbeams teacher, and then he was called to be the second counselor in the Elders Quorum Presidency. Apparently he is really good at both those things!
In package news: Package II arrived in Florida on Friday and she sent it out Fedex that day to Ecuador, so it should be there by the end of next week. We are really praying for an assignment before July as that is when the committee takes a month long holiday. So prayers in that regard would be super great.
This is the last week of school and then on to summer! Yay!
