So day 1, Thursday, we arrived in the early afternoon and Angela and I, along with Sarah and Daniel started making preparations for everyone else to arrive. Last minute room changes, checking in, making sure everyone had their packet ready, etc. Fun stuff. By dinner time everyone had arrived and Shawna and Anneka fed us a lovely dinner of hamburgers. We spent the rest of the night playing games and catching up. The Strobels LOVE games and we have some funny ones. Talk to me about Clue Charades next time we're together. Best game to play in a crowd. My only issue with it is that Devin refuses (and I mean REFUSES) to play. Darn him.
Day Two started with some field games that Shawna and Curt arranged for the kids. They all had a blast. We then had lunch and then went over to the lodge area for activities. Everyone had signed up for various things ahead of time and then Sarah called and reserved the activities for each group. We ended up at the horse stables so that each of our kids could ride the horses. A bunch of other kids were there too, which was fun. I think we came back to the cabin and then went swimming for the afternoon, but all the swimming pictures are bunched together, so they'll have to go on the next post. We then had dinner and of course played some more games. That night, Friday, Jennifer & Steve, Devin & me, and Anneka & Jonny went mini golfing after our kids were in bed and had a grand ol' time, especially because we were basically golfing in the dark after a while. The lights they had were not that great, and then they got turned off completely, so we were just shooting balls wherever. We were all in quite the funny mood too, so that made it memorable. I think I got last place, which sounds about right...
Here are a few pictures from days 1 & 2:
Aislyn, Hallie, and Eliza. Hallie hasn't spent time with either of these cousins that she remembers, but she hit it off right away with both. Nevermind that Aislyn is 7-- again Hallie loves the older girls. They won some nail polish in a game that Angela had them play so of course they had to have their nails painted right away. |
This is Tate. He is only 4 but looks 7 or 8. And I thought our kids were tall...my cousin Ashley's kids definitely take the cake! |
Jace got to sleep in the closet of our room. It was very tiny, but he was thrilled to do it! The cabins were amazing. Each had 7 bedrooms, 6 bathrooms, and various hide-a-beds. The one we were in had a big bunk room that slept probabyl 16 or more people. Ours also had a theater room in the basement, which was fun for the kids to have movie nights. |
Game night, yay! |
Oh, some of these are terribly out of order. Oh well. This is from the morning field games. I like how Flor obviously made a new friend (my cousin Heather's daughter Rachel--) and she is hoisting her up for the fun. Also take note of our reunion shirts. A must for any family reunion! |
A cute little team for a scavenger hunt. |
Part of the scavenger hunt: Take a picture while building a pyramid for Aunt Janie |
Also part of the scavenger hunt: Sing a song for Aunt Angela |
And, Flor made a new friend. Cameron this time. |
All the little ones ready to ride their horses! |
Anneka and me. We were best friends growing up- we went to the same high school and had the same group of friends, etc. It was especially good to see her as we don't get that opportunity often at all. |
Please notice how incredibly tall Hallie is looking. Keep in mind that Sadie (to the right of Hals) is only three months younger. |
Some of the girl cousins. There are far more boys in the Strobel line (54 grandchildren and 53 greats!). This is Sarah, Jennifer, Heather, Ashley, Shawna, me, and Eliza in front. She is the youngest actual grandchild, but is the same age or younger than many of the greats. My grandma's oldest great is 18 years old and about to go on a mission. |
Again, out of order-- just ignore that. Jace on his horse! |
Hals got to ride alone and was thrilled about it. I remember that her horse was named Pepsi. :) |
After much screaming and wailing and thrashing of her body, Flor finally sat on the horse and calmed right down. She loved it. Devin walked with her, but she got to ride all by herself too and did great! |
Some of us girls out watching our kids ride the horses. I should have turned the other way... |
Oh and one more horse picture apparently! |
Such a great time! More to come. But not tonight; I'm tired.
