Rhogam shot?

Ok, so there has to be someone under the sound of my voice (aka blog) who has had a Rhogam shot before. My mom passed her negative blood onto me and Devin has positive blood, therefore, I must have this shot in order to stop my body from fighting off the baby if she has positive blood as well (something like that). For some strange reason, I am just paranoid about this shot. Despite me having a billion different medical procedures done to me in my lifetime (and some of them not so pretty), I am kinda nervous about this shot. To make it worse, I mentioned to my pregnant nursing-student friend that I have to have it, just in case she has to have it too and she would be able to sympathize with me (she doesn't-darn her) and she casually mentioned that it goes into your behind. WHAT?! I didn't sign up for that! So, anyone who has had this lovely shot....tell me about it. All about it. Before I go in there next week and blame you for not warning me.

Mom had to have the dang shot to with all of us. She lived. That sucks though don't you just love all of the fun things that happen during pregnancy. This will be nothing compared to the epidural needle. :) You will be fine though for some reason we all do this again and again I guess because they are so worth it.

I had to have the shot too! It wasn't that bad, I mean it hurt alittle, but it didn't kill me :) I think you also have to get another shot after you have your baby, for the same reasons (at least I had to!) good luck!

This came up on my RhoGAM goole alerts. I did not have the shot during pregnancy with my 2 older sons but did with my last son. I wish I didn't. My youngest son is very ill from the shot given to me while pregnant. Befroe the 90's the RhoGAM shot used to be only given to rh- moms who had a positive baby. Alll 3 of mine are positive. If it were me I would wait and see the rhesus facto of the baby.

Kim, since I work at an Ob-Gyn office then I do see that lots of people have to get that shot. However, I've never seen anyone getting it before so I'm not sure if you get it in the butt or not.... However, each time someone gets it, they leave the room looking just fine and not like they were tortured or something. You will do just fine and you are a tuff girl. I guess you can just say, this is a minor preparation for the epidural. GOOD LUCK!!! I will be thinking of you.

I think Lance's wife, kim had that..but I don't know anything about it...sorry though...a girl has to go through enough as it is when they are pregnant..you shouldn't have to have an extra shot on top of it. YUCK!

Kim, Kim, Kim... When I was at Provo College, I was in a pharmacology class, and guess what!? We had to give each other shots!! I know I was freaking out too. But guess what, I think I had more problems with the shots in my arm then in my butt. I seriously think that they aren't as bad. I know this sounds weird but just stand pigeon toed. If you find that it hurts worse than what I told you. Then you can be mad at me. If it makes you feel any better I have to get a rhogam shot too when Chase and I start having kids.

I'm so glad you posted about this because I've always heard about it and I know I'll have to get one (Mitch is pos. and I'm neg....bummer).
You have to get it in the bum, but I've heard it's not too bad and that it does hurt a little when you get it but it goes away quickly and doesn't leave you sore or bruised at all. I think you might have to get it twice, once during pregnancy and one after but that's just what I've heard.
