Sunday Post #11

This has been a fairly slow week for our standards, which I am totally fine with! I had adoption training classes Friday night and all day Saturday and I had a lot to do to prep for them, so the majority of the free time this week was spent doing that.

We had our first go of our new babysitting arrangement and I think it went well! The girl that comes over for Flor is a recent returned missionary who actually only lives a few blocks from us. She is in our stake and her best friend is in our ward. So random how that worked out, but she was fabulous. We really like her. She is great with Flor and also helps with the other two (though that's not her job-- she can only by law work one-on-one with Flor. The other two have our neighbor come over to babysit them...Kind of weird, but that's how it has to be). Anyway, so that is a big relief.

We did make it to the park once, and apparently that is the only thing I took pictures of this week. I just love Flor's face while she is swinging though. She loves it. I think we need to get a swing in the backyard because she loves it so much. The only problem with swinging is that someone has to stand out there and push her. I think I should invent a big kid swing that is mechanical like a baby swing. Ha ha ha...

In other news, we know for sure that our packet arrived in Ecuador and that it has been turned into the committee. We are really praying that we will be "matched" with M before the end of the month as the committee takes the whole month of July off for holidays. I know we are asking a lot with our prayers, but please keep praying for us. I feel like we have had too many delays already and we really, really want this process to get moving. Anyway, so there's that.

And speaking of Ecuador, I had a really cool experience this week. I was telling my friend, not even a week ago, that I had no idea what happened to one of the girls who had aged out of the orphanage when I was first a volunteer there. They gave her a short-term position at the orphanage to help her out until she could find some other job. She was a teenager at the time. She was there when I went back with Kylee about 5 months after my first trip. After that, I knew that she wasn't at SVP anymore and I never knew what happened to her. Anyway, I was just saying that I have no idea where she is or if she is okay, and then I got a friend request from her on Facebook this week! Honestly, it has been 9 years since I have heard from her. I originally ignored the friend request because the profile told me nothing and I didn't recognize the name, but then I thought, "The first name is the same as this girl..." (It's a common name), so I added her and sure enough, once we are friends I can see all her pictures and see that it's her. We messaged a bit and I found out that she is living with a distant relative and working 6 days a week to provide for herself. She has moved out of Quito, but hopefully we can go visit her when we are there. I'll have to find out where she is- I didn't recognize the name of the city. Hopefully it's not too far from Quito. Anyway, little miracles in life.

Well, that was short. Maybe this week will be more exciting.

Good update Kim. We are now putting M's name on the prayer roll, I just can't spell it right....

YAY! No, not everyone knew your packet had made it! I am so excited to hear that! We are continuing our prayers for you all. And the story about the girl/facebook is amazing. Gave me the chills.
(PS: I would buy stock in your mechanical swing btw. I so do not like swinging!)
