We had agreed with the Schinnerers to have Luis, a local driver who has taken us a few places, pick us up at 8 am to be on our way to Cotopaxi., an active volcano about 2 hours away from Quito. We enjoyed the drive there, watching the scenery and talking with Jim, Robin, and Pablo.

The day started off slow and dreary. We stayed around the apartment this morning, put the kids down for early naps, and headed to the Schinnerers apartment at about 2. Jim had called this morning to tell us that MJ and Fabiola (translator/attorney) were coming to their apartment at 2 to talk to them about their case. First things first, we did hear from MJ today. She said that we will go to the courthouse on Thursday for our signature verification and then court will be "maybe Friday, maybe Monday." So, apparently court keeps getting pushed back. I hope Friday or Monday are accurate. Only time will tell. So please pray for us that things will get moving and that we can get to court this week.

So, today was a good day. We didn't leave the house until 3 pm, but when we did, we were out until 8:30 or so, which is later than we have ever been out!
 
The biggest/saddest news of the day is that our Costco 5 lb. brick of cheddar cheese reached its end today. So sad. This morning we had arranged with Andres (the owner of our apartment) to have him take us to the hospital where Flor was born. The hospital is at the very south end of the city and is quite the drive from where we are. It was a pretty happy day for us here today.

We made it to church early and enjoyed our time there. Everyone is very friendly and loves to help with our kids, which we think is great. I enjoy seeing Angel and Jenny, from my OSSO days and chatting with them a bit too. It is also nice to be able to have an English speaking sunday school class where we can participate.

We went to the zoo today as we had planned to do with the Schinnerers and the Harlans. We hired a driver to take us as the Quito Zoo, though so named, is actually in a town called Guayllabamba, about 45 minutes away. The driver picked us up at our apartment at about 9:15 or so and then we went to pick up the other two families.

Today was a sit-around-the-house-and-do-nothing day. It marks the 6th anniversary of when this journey all began. I spent New Year's Eve 2005 in the hospital with Flor and that night changed my life and the life of my family. Here we are now, six years later, in her home country adopting her. Wow.

Luckily, Jace slept in until 6 (I can't believe I am saying "luckily" with that sentence as his usual waking time at home is between 7:30 and 8. But, 6 is certainly better than 5!) I really shouldn't complain either, because Devin woke up with him and I slept until 7. Jace decided to wake up about 5 am (he is progressively getting earlier), which meant that we were all up by 6 ish. We had breakfast and baths and then had naps at 8 am. Devin and I at least napped...not sure about the kids. What good parents we are.

Today started out bright and early. We were up by 6 am in order to catch our taxi at 7:10 am to get to Flor's orphanage by 7:30. The orphanage is actually just off the same main road that we are on, but about 20 minutes north. It costs $5 to get there by taxi, which isn't bad.

Well, it is! While the idea behind the month is to promote the adoption of children in Foster Care who are awaiting families, in addition it is a great reason to celebrate adoption and educate others about it.

I had a rough night. A good cry with my husband (okay he didn't cry-- just me) and a new day and I am feeling better.

I know we have had to deal with a lot, but in reality I still know that we have more to be grateful for the journey. I need to focus on these things and not let the rotten parts get me down.

I feel like we are getting nothing but right now in our adoption. When we started this journey, I knew it was going to be hard. But never did I imagine that it would be this hard. The short story: Nothing has happened.

The long(er) story: There are a lot of details to this and some of them are not very pleasant, so if you want the real, deep and dirty version, you'll have to ask me in person. 

So you know how MF was supposed to be officially assigned to us on September 8? Then September 15? I am fine some days, and then there are other days- like today, that are just rough.It has been interesting to watch how each of my family members is dealing with this tragedy and how each processes their grief.
